Helping young people and pastoral
leaders to bring the Gospel to the young who are thirsting
for the Word of
God, La Biblia Católica para Jóvenes realizes
the teachings of the bishops in Vatican II, when they
declared that “the Church, with Motherly concern,
sees to it that suitable and correct translations are
made into various languages... translations of the sacred
texts which are equipped with necessary and really adequate
explanations. Thus the children of God can familiarize
themselves safely and profitably with the sacred Scriptures,
and become steeped in their spirit.” (Dei Verbum
22 and 25).
La Biblia Católica para Jóvenes also
responds to the petition of the Latin American bishops
at their meeting in Puebla—to make the sacred Scriptures
the soul of evangelization, catechesis, and the liturgy,
in order to respond to the growing desire for the Word
of God. It is a privileged instrument for the New Evangelization
requested by Pope John Paul II in Santo Domingo, and
a means to achieve the goal of his exhortation Ecclesia
in America: “The encounter with the living Christ,
the road to conversion, communion, and solidarity.”
